As part of our Mega Maths Friday, work we looked closely at problem solving and how to tackle the questions in a systematic, logical way.
Investigations provide challenges that offer opportunities for the development of the key mathematical skills while deepening conceptual understanding.
We developed our maths talk and our understanding of problems by working through puzzles and problems and discussing the issues that arose from trying to find the solutions.
We agreed that it was ok to have to try lots of different ways before the answer was found.
Our favourite investigation we participated in was the sealed solution envelope game. We not only figured out a solution but we realised there was more than one way to solve it. We wouldn't have come to this conclusion without delving deeper and exploring the whole concept thoroughly.
